A recent study published in the November 2008 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition looked at the nutrient content of kids meals offered by 10 fast-food companies. Only 3% of kids meals met the US Department of Agriculture nutrient standards for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). Most of the kids meals that met the standards were deli-sandwich based meals and included milk and a side of fruit. Using this information, parents can make kids meals at fast-food establishments healthier by ordering milk instead of soda and a side of fruit instead of French fries.
